Trade Minister Bandula Guanwardena today raised a privilege issue in Parliament over a cartoon published in the state run newspaper “Dinamina’ which depicts him being outsmarted by a black market trader.

“This newspaper is maintained at tax payer’s money but when I spoke criticizing officials of the Finance Ministry and their  attempts to hoodwink both politicians  and Parliament  not a  word was reported but instead they  have published a cartoon  of me getting outsmarted by a black market trader,” he said.

He requested the Speaker to summon the parliamentary correspondents of the newspaper and question them on the matter as it was a violation of his parliamentary privileges.
