The number of COVID-19 patients in the country soared to 417 today with a total of 49 new cases detected during the day of which 30 were navy personnel attached to the Welisara Navy camp.
The new patients were identified as the Health ministry carried out a record number of 1142 of PCR tests in high risk areas today, the Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe said.
Eleven of the patients were identified from quarantine centers and from among those in self isolation at Bandaranayakapura, Dr. Jasinghe said. Five other are navy personnel who were on home leave. Two of them are from Kurunegala, and one each from Ratnapura, Badulla and Kandy.
Another was a woman who was admitted to the De Soysa Maternity Home in Colombo who also tested positive for the coronavirus last evening.
