Sri Lanka recorded its seventh death from the corona virus today (8 April), the Director General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr. Anil Jasinghe said.
The deceased is a 44-year-old male who was receiving treatment at National Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) .
He was identified as a gem businessman resident in Mount Lavinia. He had returned to the country after a tour of Germany following which he was detected with the virus, the DHGS said in a news release.
The first death from COVID- 19 was reported in the country on 28 March . The victim was a 60-year-old man who was under treatment at the IDH .
The second death occurred on 30 March and the deceased was a 64-year-old male who was under statement at the Negombo General Hospital.
The third death from COVID-19 was reported on 1 April . The victim was a 72-year old male resident of Maradana . He died while under treatment at the IDH.
The fourth person to die from COVID -19 was a 58-year old male who was also receiving treatment at the IDH. He died on 2 April.
The fifth victim of COVID -19 was a 44-year-old man who was receiving treatment at the Welikanda Hospital. He had been at a quarantine after returning from Italy when he was identified as infected with the corona virus and died on 4 April.
The sixth person to die of the corona virus was an 80-year old male , a resident of Dehiwala who was receiving treatment at the IDH Hospital. He died on 7 April.
