Members of the public who travel on main roads and by-roads are required to wear a face mask with effect from today (11 April) , Police spokesman SP Jaliya Senaratne said .
The move is aimed at protecting health care personnel, members of the Police and armed forces who are on the frontline of the COVID-19 preventive programs and are exposed while on official duty.
“Many in the health care services , Police and the tri forces have had to self-quarantine as they have been exposed to infected persons who were going about without face masks,” SP Senaratne said.
He added that those who do not have surgical masks can use an improvised mask like a handkerchief .
