Forty-year-old Sarath made a living by manual labour, making a daily wage that was enough to sustain a family of four. With the month-long curfew in place to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, he, like hundreds of others, has been left with no income.

As the regular jobs have dried up, Sarath decided to try his hand at making Vesak lanterns to sell to get an income.  It has been rewarding and so far, he has sold around 50 of them at Rs 200 each and hopes sales swill pick up a Vesak Poya draws closer.
