Former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya said today he has no intention of reconvening Parliament and creating another crisis.
Jayasuriya made these comments at a meeting of the Constitutional Council (CC) held today.
The former Speaker who chairs the CC said that it is only the Supreme Court that can give an interpretation in case of a constitutional crisis and he is bound to act according to the decision given by the SC.
He urged all party leaders and parties to not create any form of constitutional crisis at a time where there is a health emergency affecting the whole world.
Today's meeting was attended by all ten CC members including Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, former Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, former MPs R. Sampanthan, Talata Athukorala, Mahinda Samarasinghe and Bimal Ratnayake as well as civil society representatives on the CC Dr. Jayantha Dhanapala, Javid Yusuf and Naganathan Selvakkumaran.
