The Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya , one of the most sacred Buddhist sites in the country , which would be teeming with thousands of devotees on a Vesak Poya day fell silent this year with the spread of the coronavirus.
A few devotees braved the curfew to reach the temple and engaged in religious observances while most Buddhists stayed at home listening to sermons relayed over television and radio.
