Ten years old Master Sai Dhinakar Kouwshigan from Sri Lanka has been selected as a winner in the International Painting Competition ‘United Against CORONA’.

His artwork titled ‘Let Us Defeat COVID -19’  was short-listed for the award by an international panel of judges. His art inspired by the Warli tribal art form of India is a beautiful blend of traditional and contemporary elements.

The art competition was launched by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in April 2020 and received more than 8,000 entries from all over the world. Sri Lanka sent the third highest number of entries in the competition, the Indian High Commission in Colombo said in a press release.

Master Sai thanked ICCR for giving him an opportunity to participate in the International Painting Competition and for considering his artwork for the award. Master Sai has been learning the nuances of the art from his father, Mr. Ramiah Kouwshigan, who is an eminent artist himself.

On 22ndJuly, 2020, Master Sai and his parents were felicitated by the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC), the cultural arm of the High Commission of India, Colombo. Master Sai was awarded a cash prize and an appreciation letter by Director of the Centre, Dr. Rewant Vikram Singh.

ICCR is now in the process of launching the online exhibition of the best selected artworks so that art lovers from across the world can enjoy them at their leisure.
