Leader of the House of Parliament Minister Dinesh Gunawardena will move a motion in Parliament today setting the number of members to the High Post Committee at 18. They will be nominated by the Committee of Selection which has already been appointed. The HPC is likely to be appointed within the week.
The HPC is tasked with examining the suitability of any person nominated for posts of Secretaries to Ministries, Heads of Missions abroad and Chairpersons of selected Corporations etc. and call for public representation after the names of the nominees are forwarded to it.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s nominees picked to head Sri Lankan missions overseas will have to await the composition of the Parliamentary Committee on High Posts before they get clearance to take up their appointments.
Among the President's nominees picked to head Sri Lanka’s missions are former MP and businessman Milinda Moragdoa who will go as High Commissioner to India and Palitha Kohona ,who served as Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and later as Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations , as Ambassador to Beijing.
