The Indian Coast Guard (ICG)  and Sri Lankan ships and aircraft along with tug ALP Winger have  successfully towed  the oil tanker MT New Diamond, which caught fire after an explosion, away from Lankan waters.

“#ICG & Sri Lankan ships and aircraft along with tug ALP Winger after consolidated efforts successfully towed   #MTNewDiamond more than 35 NM away from  #SriLanka coast to safe waters. #FireFighting continues and fire now reduced. No oil slick reported,” ICG said on its official Twitter handle.

The Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) , Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Indian Navy, and the Indian Coast Guard are working together in this coordinated disaster mitigation operation, SLN said last evening.

The SLAF released photographs of yesterday’s attempts at dousing the raging fire on the oil tanker.
