273 buses belonging to the Sri Lanka Transport Board which had been taken out of service due to their dilapidated condition were repaired and added to the state-run bus fleet today.
These buses will operate along rural roads throughout the island.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa participated in a ceremony this morning where the buses were handed over to regional SLTB depots.
The 273 buses that were completely out of service at 107 depots island wide have been repaired at a cost of Rs. 115 million.
The project is being implemented by the Sri Lanka Transport Board Depot and Lakdiva Engineering Company with the full support of the Sri Lanka Public Transport Employees Union. The project is ongoing.
Gamini Lokuge, Minister of Transport, Dilum Amunugama, Minister of State, Lalith Weeratunga, Chief Adviser to the President and Kingsley Ranawaka, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Transport Board were also present.
