Newly elected Batticaloa district MP Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias 'Pillayan' who was granted permission to attend Parliament was transferred from the Batticaloa Prison to the Welikada Prison this morning.

Chandrakanthan contested from the  Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP) while in  remand custody as an accused in the murder of former ITAK MP Joseph Pararajasingham who was shot dead  during  Christmas Mass in a Batticaloa church in 2005.

The Batticaloa High Court on Tuesday granted him permission to attend Parliament so as to take oaths as a MP.

He topped the Batticaloa District preferential list winning  54,198 votes in teh 5 Augusts parliamentary poll.
