Public officials will commence work  on 1 January by taking an oath  titled the “Oath of Public Servants” aimed at changing the attitudes of all public servants and to ensure a committed service is delivered to the people.

All public officials will take the Oath in the language of their choice before the commencement of work on 1 January. The main official ceremony will be held at 9.00 a.m. on 1 January at the Presidential Secretariat under the auspices of the Secretary to President D.B.Jayasundera.

The  Oath/ Affirmation of the Public Service requires them to work towards creating a disciplined, law abiding and healthy society under the vision of Vistas of prosperity and splendor, the President’s election manifesto.

The Oath states: -” I, an employee paid by the public being a part of a pure government which guides the human resource equipped with modern technology, do hereby swear/ affirm to perform each and every way the role entrusted to me in the implementation of public policies and goals, efficiently, productively, with firm determination, and utmost dedication, honesty, and with loyalty to the public, with a view to meet the challenges of developing the motherland which flourishes as one country, one nation, one country under one flag with unity and harmony to create a disciplined, law abiding and healthy society under the vision of Vistas of prosperity and splendor, and to create a people-centric economy through development of physical resources focused on sustainable environment management through an accelerated development which ensures benefits to every citizen and also to create a well secured future for the Sri Lankans and future generation.”
