All Election related propaganda activities will cease at midnight today (2.8.2020) as the mandatory “ silent period” of 48 hours prior to  the comment of the polling for the Parliament election begins at 7 a.m. on 5 August .

Meanwhile Election officials are busy readying the cardboard boxes to be used for the election for dispatch to different polling booths.

Here are some of the scenes at D.S.Senanayake College, Colombo yesterday where election officials were busy at work.

The EC started the use of cardboard boxes at last year's presidential election 
The boxes are large & help cut the cost on metal or plastic boxes 
The boxes are marked with the name of the polling division & booth numbers 
The boxes are also examined for defects prior to dispatch 
The mammoth task of conducting an election falls on public sector workers 
Meticulous makings are made on boxes before they are sent to different polling centers
