The sprawling new Manning Market in Peliyagdoa,constructed on 15 acres of land,will be opened by mid-November to coincide with the first anniversary of the election of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary to the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing Sirinimal Perera said.
Perera said that while work on the construction of the market suffered a setback in the past few months, the work has now been expedited and will be completed by November. He made these comments when he undertook an inspection tour to see the ongoing work at the market
State Minister of Urban Development, Coast Conservation, Waste Disposal, and Public Sanitation Dr. Nalaka Godahewa who also took part in the inspection tour said once the Manning Market is shifted to Peliyagoda, the two acres of vacant land in Pettah will be used to develop public facilities and will be joined with the Fort Railway Station to ease traffic congestion in the area.
The new Manning market in Peliyagoda is on 15 acres of land and will consist of over 11000 shop ,a massive vehicle park , resting areas for workers, cool rooms, banking facilities etc.
The market has been designed by CECB - Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau.
