The 61st death anniversary of the founder of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and Prime Minister (1956-1959) S.W.R.D.Bandaranaiek fell on 26 September.
A commemorative event was held at the Bandaranaike Samadhi at his ancestral home at Horagolla with his daughters former President Chandrika Kumaratunga and Sunethra Bandaranaike in attendance.
Former President Maithripala Sirisena who is the current leader of the SLFP did not attend the event.
