Three candidates  who had handed in nomination papers to contest  yesterday’s parliamentary election  died prior to the poll and were replaced by others.

These include former Minister Arumugam Thondaman, who was to contest in the Nuwara Eliya District from the SLPP,who died in June and was replaced by his son Jeevan Thondaman.

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SBJ) candidate for the Puttalam District Ashoka Wadigamangawa died in a road accident last month and he was replaced by his son Gamini Ashoka Wadigamangawa .

An independent candidate  Jayawardhanage Sunil Perera died in June and he was replaced  by Mrs.  Priyanthi Aruna Kapukotuwa to contest from Independent Group 26 in the Colombo District.

The names of the new nominees were included in the ballot paper.
